Alvin Ronald Bishop

January 31, 1939 — December 23, 2022

Alvin Ronald Bishop, “Ron,” loving husband and father, passed away on December 23rd, at the age of 83. Ron was born January 31st, 1939, in Port Townsend to Arthur and Olive Bishop of Chimacum. He graduated from Chimacum High School and worked at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill before enlisting in the United States Army. He served as an active soldier before coming back home and joining the Reserve. He continued to work at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill for the next 27 years, while also working on his family farm, Bishop Organic Dairy Farm, until his retirement.

In 1966, Ron married his first wife. Together for 25 years, they had three children; Ron, Billy, and Sherry. In 1992, Ron married his second and current wife, Sue, after meeting at a dinner with his brother Wayne and sister-in-law Gloria. He also served as a stepfather to Sue’s children; Rex, and Christi. Sue was with him when he passed peacefully at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital in Port Townsend.

Ron had a special place in his heart for all animals. From taking care of animals on his family’s farm such as feeding the calves everyday, to his dogs and cats at home; he loved animals as if they were his own children. One of his favorite pastimes was feeding his chickens and caring for his cats. His nurturing hand for animals went as far as rescuing a wounded crow that he took care of for many years. Ron was a family man. Being a good father, husband, and person was one of the most important aspects of his life. He loved spending time outdoors with family, and he took countless camping trips to Kalaloch with his loved ones. Although he loved everything nature had to offer, his favorite thing in life was being on the farm. Ron was also an active member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, two nieces, and his sister Darlene Strain. He is also survived by his current wife, Sue; children Ron (Shannon), Billy, and Sherry (Jesse) all of Chimacum; step children Rex and Christi; his brothers Gerald and Wayne that still live on the family farm; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 18th at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses on Egg & I Rd. in Chimacum.
