Charlotte Pennington, age 77, passed away peacefully at home October 1, 2019. She was born June 1, 1942 in Portland, Oregon to Della Fay and Robert Macomber. Charlotte lived with her family in the Hollywood district of Portland, OR and graduated from Grant High School in 1960. She attended State College of Iowa (University of Northern Iowa) from 1960 -1964. There she met her future husband, Hugh Pennington. Charlotte and Hugh were married March 14, 1964 at Hinson Baptist Church in Portland, OR. Upon graduation from college, Charlotte returned to teach at Grant High School before interrupting her career to begin her family. In 1966 daughter Tracey Lee was born followed three years later by daughter Kori Lynne. When the girls reached school age she resumed her career, teaching English and social studies at Jackson, Wilson and Cleveland High Schools in the Portland Public School District. Charlotte loved to travel and often combined travel with her education. She toured Europe extensively, studied the Holocaust in Poland and Israel, and toured Japan with a group of educators. Her travels also took her to Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, Hawaii, London and Scotland. She and Hugh traveled throughout the United States using timeshare exchanges. They also enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Alaska. Charlotte indicated that she “had been everywhere she had wanted to be in the world.” Charlotte was an avid reader, etched glass, and enjoyed creating beautiful cards. For several years she was a docent at The Commanding Officers House at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA. She also enjoyed boating, hiking, and golf. Charlotte lived with breast cancer. Her initial diagnosis was thirty years ago. After years of being cancer free, it recurred ten years ago. She was grateful for the care she received at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Charlotte is survived by Hugh Pennington, her husband of 55 years; her daughter Tracey Cartwright (Richard) of Bothell, WA; her daughter Kori Bryant (Michael) of Everett, WA; her sister Jacqueline Macomber of Clarkston, GA.: grandchildren Tyler Cartwright, Austin Cartwright, Brenna Bryant, Lana Bryant, and Emily Bryant.
