David "Dave" Johnson, 69, of Port Townsend, passed away suddenly after battling a long illness on October 6th, 2019. Dave was born April 28th, 1950 in Chicago, IL. Throughout his youth he enjoyed athletics, woodworking, and anything sports related. He went to Gordon Tech High School where he was a champion diver and lifeguard in his teenage years. Later, he graduated from Washburn Trade School in 1970 and pursued his lifelong passion as a master carpenter and contractor. He met and married his lovely bride Nancy in 1972. After serving his apprenticeship in Chicago he started his own business and eventually moved to Port Townsend in 1979. There he continued to build it into a well-known and highly respected contracting business. He was instrumental in preserving and restoring many historically significant homes and commercial buildings of Port Townsend. As part of the community, he served as an officer of the Elks Lodge for several years. Dave volunteered often with the local Boy Scouts, 4-H and Search and Rescue groups. He was also known to have a passion for coaching youth sports. He loved to water-ski and camp as a way to enjoy the outdoors. Had it not been for his health, he would have continued his path toward a pilot’s license. After his children were grown, he enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their countless activities. Dave will long be remembered for his extraordinary kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew and loved him. Additionally, if you’re looking for any number of the 1,000’s of tools that we aren’t sure what they’re used for. You should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch.
