Frank Graves Brown

September 1, 1926 — June 26, 2021

Frank G. Brown, 94, of Port Townsend, WA passed away quietly at home on June 26, 2021, just four months after his beloved wife of 72 years, Margery Goodwin Brown, passed away. Frank was born on September 1, 1926 in Lynn, MA to Leona Young and Frank G. Brown. They moved to Marblehead when Frank was a child, and he graduated from Marblehead High School in 1944. He joined the Navy immediately after graduation and served two years. At that time he attended Boston University. Frank and Margery were each other’s first dates when they were 15. They reunited when Frank returned from the Navy and married in 1948. They started their marriage in Marblehead and then moved to PA, IN, TX and finally ended up in Port Townsend, WA. This was a town they chose because it was beautiful, had a thriving art community for Margery and reminded them both of the Marblehead in which they grew up and met. They enjoyed over 30 years of retirement in Port Townsend and loved having family and friends visit their beautiful town. Frank learned to play bridge while in the Navy, and it became a lifelong passion for him. He would travel to play in tournaments and during retirement he played several days a week and eventually became a life master. During retirement Frank and Margery made several cross country road trips, camping along the way. Margery kept a journal of their adventures, and they both enjoyed talking about their travels and sharing photos. Their trips would always take them to Marblehead to visit family and friends and share memories. They would also stop at their children’s homes and loved seeing them and their grandchildren and great grandchildren. One trip surprised them with a fiesta at their son’s home in San Antonio, TX to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Their 60th anniversary was a week long celebration and reunion with many family members at Fort Worden in Port Townsend. Margery and Frank were blessed to have their son Edward Brown and his family live with them for the past eight years. This enabled them to continue living and eventually passing away in their own home. Frank is survived by four children, Susan Calhoun (Richard), Nancy Jo Deller (Henry), Edward Brown (Mirian), and David Brown (Annie); grandchildren, Rebekah Calhoun Ulmer (Jeff), Christopher Calhoun, Emma Deller Landis (Melvin), Jacob Brown, Stephen Hooper Brown, Samantha Brown, Grant Brown, Danielle Brown, Edwin Ballote (Alana), Mirian Ballote, Taylor Brown and Brittney Brown McKittrick (Kevin); great grandchildren, Jake, Jolie and Jackson Ulmer, William and Brooke Landis, Nico Wheeler-Brown and Sonny McKittrick. Frank is also survived by his sister Fay Roberts and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service for both Frank and Margery will be held in Marblehead in the fall. Donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Jefferson Healthcare https://www.hospicefoundationjhc.org/donate-online/ or The Marblehead Museum https://marbleheadmuseum.org/annual-fund/
