Gwen was born in Commerce, Texas to Terrell and Floy Bass. She lived in Texas until she met and married Asa Thomas Howland there. They relocated to Asa’s hometown, Port Townsend, Washington where they had and raised their four children. Gwen married Gerald Franklin Binnings in 1977. She shared his interest in boating and they spent many summers sailing (in) the northwest waters. For many years, Gwen worked as a school secretary in Port Townsend. Her many hobbies included keeping up with her four sisters, square dancing, bowling, reading, playing cards, quilting and boating. She is survived by her children whom she loved unconditionally; Gail Casteel (Bill) of Poulsbo and Yuma, Arizona, and grandchildren Greg Hicks and Paula Smith, Carol Baltes (Lloyd Baldwin) of Port Townsend and grandchildren Shari Glessing and Teresa Kranz, Linda Sather of Port Townsend and grandchildren Craig and Chris, Roger Howland of Goleta, California and grandson Brian, Gwen also had nine great grandchildren whom she adored. Four step children live in California with their families. Gwen will be remembered as a special lady - kind, gracious and loving.
