Herbert Andrew Morrison

October 16, 1942 — November 28, 2023

OCTOBER 16, 1942 – NOVEMBER 28, 2023

Herb passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

Herb was born in Truro, NS, Canada and lived in Toronto, ON and Calgary, AB. He met his wife, Helen, in the Bahamas—it was love at first sight—and they were together for 49 years. He moved to Madera, CA in 1979, and to Seattle in 1985. He also lived in Gorham, ME. He retired to Port Ludlow, WA in 2005.

He had an amazing sense of humor and a quick wit, which he held until his death. He loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest, and on his own terms. His love of people was one of his greatest assets, second only to his love of animals. He was rarely seen without a cat or a dog by his side, or in his lap, and they gravitated to him.

Herb worked in Real Estate, and later in life became a fine woodworker and, as a result, was an avid tool collector. He had a passion for fishing, boating, and loved airplanes. If there was an air museum to see, Herb would be there. One of the highlights of his life was spending time in London where he attended the RAF Museum in Colindale, England. It was a trip of a lifetime. Herb’s other passion was being a Shriner and he volunteered many hours at the Shrine Center in Mountlake Terrace, raising money for the Shriners Hospitals, hosting Navy Days for our servicemen, and being a member of the Director’s Staff. He loved movies and all history, especially World War II history.

Herb is survived by his wife Helen; his brother Scott; and sisters, Kaye, Deanna, and Heather. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Marian Morrison (Wooley); his brothers, Nicky and Alfie; his sister, Alice; his nephew, Brent; and his niece Darcy.

A special thanks to his friends for their kindness and support and to Jefferson Home Health and Hospice who made it possible for Herb to remain at home until his passing. Cremation will take place at Kosec Funeral Home, and there will be a scattering of ashes at some time in the future. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his honor can be made to the UW Medicine Foundation, specifically the Department of Cardiology. Family and friends are invited to share memories of Herb and sign the online guestbook.
