Katherine Mary Scheffler "Kathy" passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thanksgiving afternoon, Nov 28, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. She was born on May 21, 1968 in Lockport, New York to the Rev. Richard H. Scheffler of Phoenix, NY, who predeceased her in 2022, and her mother Margaret A (Sutherland) Scheffler. She had lived the past 10 years with her son Julian in Tacoma, Washington.
She graduated from John C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix, NY, attended Onondaga County Community College, and later received her 2 year degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan College.
A gifted musician, Kathy grew up playing cello and french horn and later was a vocalist and keyboardist for Syracuse, NY area alternative rock/punk bands including The Misery Spoons and Muck. She stole the show as Queen Aggravain in her high school production of Once Upon a Mattress. She loved to cook and enjoyed karaoke singing. She was a waitress at Weber's German restaurant in Syracuse, served in the Army Reserve, and for several years operated a cleaning business in the Syracuse area. She adored her two children, Holly and Julian. She was smart, beautiful, witty, vivacious and the life of any party she attended. She was a lover of animals and adopted many cats in need of a home.
Kathy is survived by her mother Margaret A Scheffler "Marge" of Baldwinsville, NY; step-mother Margaret Rex Scheffler "Peg" of Phoenix, NY; children, Holly Scheffler of Baldwinsville, NY and Julian Bliss of Tacoma, WA; brother, James P. Scheffler of Springfield, MA and step-sisters, Stephanie Cushman, Mary Helander, and Jennifer Fuschino; she is also survived by an aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
Burial will be held in the Phoenix Rural Cemetery in Phoenix, NY at a date to be announced. Services to be announced at a later date.
