Marilynn Marie Holmes

Marilynn Marie Holmes (Knutsen), March 29th 1929 – August 1st 2020 Marilynn Marie Holmes passed away peacefully on August 1st 2020 with her loving son Kurt Holmes by her side at home in Port Townsend. She was born in Los Angeles, California on March 25th, 1929. Her parents were Harold and Marguerite Knutsen. She spent most young life in Los Angeles with her best friend Carol Christie. Marilynn was an accomplished musician and music teacher. She performed with and an assortment of musician such as Nat King Cole, Lawrence Welk, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. She also was an accomplished accordion player and taught many children the accordion in the 40’s and 50’s in Los Angeles. In 1966 she and her husband John Holmes moved to Port Townsend with their two sons Kurt and Mark. She worked as an office manager here in Port Townsend at Alaska Power and Telephone Company serving Southeast Alaska until her retirement in 1976. She loved to travel later in life and also loved to purchase homes, fix them up and then move on to another project with her husband John who at one time was a Special Needs and Vocational Educational Teacher here in Port Townsend and Chimacum. She also loved to shop and enjoy time with her daughter in law Marcia Holmes. She liked to say Marcia was the daughter she always wanted, and reminded her son Kurt that on several occasions. She also took great comfort and love from her Persian cat Miss Princess Brighton Bling Bling. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Marguerite, husband John, son Mark and her daughter in law Marcia. She is survived by her son Kurt Holmes, grandson Justin Holmes, granddaughter Brianne Horbatko, great grandson Cash Holmes and great granddaughter Gwynneth Horbatko.
