Marion Ruth St. Martin

December 28, 1925 — June 27, 2022

Port Townsend, WA resident Marion Ruth St. Martin went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2022 in her home surrounded by family. She will be remembered as loving, supportive and a woman of faith and prayer, always praying for each one in the family and for any others she knew who were sick or struggling. She also loved spending time in her flower garden. Marion, born on December 28, 1925 in Woodlake, California, was the youngest of three daughters born to Hugo J Galle and Lena Wilhelmina Galle. Her family had an orange orchard, an olive grove, and raised cattle. There was always something to do on the ranch, but Sundays were reserved for attending church as a family at the Presbyterian Church where she later taught Sunday School classes. Her growing up years were tough years in our nation’s history filled with bank failures, The Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, and ration books. Marion remembered saving tinfoil from gum wrappers to be put to use for the war effort. Her family was even “recruited” to watch for enemy war planes. Marion attended Woodlake High School where she played violin, participated in chorus, theater, and YWCA Girl Reserves. After graduation she went on to serve in a ministry among migrant farm workers for a short time before attending Azusa Pacific University. Marion always wanted to run an orphanage, but that never came to be once she met and married Paul St. Martin. She and Paul ended up with a small ranch of their own where they grew oranges, olives, and managed their own small herd of cattle. They worked hard, often side by side, to provide a wonderful life for their two children. Upon retiring and selling the ranch, Marion and Paul moved to Port Townsend, WA where Marion’s sister lived and where rumors of excellent fishing intrigued Paul. Over the next 20 years, they bounced around a bit between Washington, Oregon, and California but ended up back in Port Townsend where they lived out the remainder of their days. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Paul, parents Hugo and Lena, sisters Lucille and Virginia, grandson Clifford, and great grandson Malachi. Surviving family members are daughter Sandra (Dale) Wurtsmith, son Clifford (Susan); grandchildren Jennifer Tracer, Matthew St. Martin, Ashley Hicks; great granddaughters Taylor Tracer, Jacey Reisinger, Julissa St. Martin; great grandsons Deen St. Martin, Dylan Tracer, Caden St. Martin, Jonston St. Martin, Caleb and Isaiah Hicks and several nieces and nephews. Marion’s family would like to thank friends and neighbors who sent cards, special gifts of love and flowers to Marion prior to her passing and those who brought food and Starbucks to those of us caring for her. Arrangements are by Kosec Funeral Home. To respect Marion’s wishes, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, consider donating in Marion’s memory to one of these local charities: ECHHO (http://echhojc.org/donate/) or Hospice Foundation for Jefferson Healthcare (www.hospicefoundationJhc.org)
