In the years after Marlin graduated with honors from Hyde Park high school in Chicago, he married his first wife Janis Johnson Dollries, joined the US Air Force and headed to England where he was stationed. Marlin moved to Southern California where he met and married his beloved Christine Loveall. Along with her 2 children, they settled in Glendale, California a while until they decided to purchase the Lincoln Beach Market, a small fruit stand and market on the Oregon coast. With a lot of hard work they grew the market to a large grocery store. Marlin served as President of the United Grocers Board, President and active member of the Lincoln City Rotary board and both he and Chris were active in the community.
After they sold the market, Marlin and Chris split their time between Indio, California and Oregon playing golf, caravanning the United States in their motorhome, traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
After Chris passed away, Marlin stayed in their home in Creswell, Oregon for a few years before moving to Port Townsend for his final months to be close to his daughters. He passed peacefully with his daughter Karen at his side.
