Robin Ray Lum Cheong

July 10, 1962 — March 8, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Robin Ray Lum Cheong, who departed this life on March 8, 2025, in Port Townsend, Washington, at the age of 62.

Robin was born on July 10, 1962, in Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies, to Ayoune Albert Lum Cheong How and Bernice Jocelyn Wharton. He was a brilliant son, brother, and friend whose life was enriched by his passions and creativity.

Robin is survived by his loving family: his brother Gary Lum Cheong and wife Irene Lum Cheong, brother Ricky Merritt and wife Cassandra Merritt, brother Dr. Ronnie Sean Benoit, MD, and husband Alexander Hay, sister Genevieve Lum Cheong-Brown and husband Jeffery R. Brown, and brother Russell Merritt. 5 nieces & 7 nephews, 3 grandnieces & 7 grandnephews and a myriad of cousins.

Robin’s academic journey began at Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, NY, and continued at Iowa State University, where he studied science and humanities. Upon returning from Iowa State, he attended Elizabeth Seton College, where he earned his degree and became a Nurse, a profession he passionately practiced for many years, caring for those in need with compassion and dedication.

Beyond his career in nursing, Robin had a deep love for music, movies, and literature, which shaped his life and artistic pursuits. His teenage years were filled with the electrifying sounds of Rock & Roll, with KISS as his favorite band. He enjoyed playing the guitar, piano and harmonica and later went on to form two bands, Future Fuzz & MOON.

A true creative spirit, Robin produced the film "Major Nobody", authored many books, and wrote an extensive collection of short stories, plays, poems, sonnets, and songs. His artistic contributions were a reflection of his boundless imagination and passion for storytelling.

Robin’s life was one of dedication—to his writings, music, filmmaking and his art. He will be remembered for his humor, creativity, and unwavering love for those who knew him. His legacy lives on in his music and writings.
