It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Cameron Browner, who left this world surrounded by his children, deep love and cherished memories.
Born in St. Louis MO, Scott grew up working in his mother’s pancake house, while causing some good natured trouble with childhood friends from Lindbergh High School, more formally known as “The Golden Commandos.” After graduating college from SIU Carbondale, he worked for many years at "Touch Of Nature," a camp for children with disabilities. Scott married Eileen (Purcell) Browner in 1981, raised his beloved children in St. Louis MO, and spent the latter half of his life in Southern IL, a place where his passions for nature and friendship thrived.
Scott was a man of many talents and pursuits. He brought life and music to his community as the owner of several blues clubs, offering a space where deep heartfelt music intertwined for years with joy and camaraderie. He and his brother Stuart owned Mike & Minn's in Soulard, during which time they hosted some of the first annual St. Louis’ Mardi Gras Parades. Scott also beautifully remodeled several historic homes around the city. Later in life, Scott owned two other blues clubs, then found success in a 16 year career with AFLAC insurance, earning the trust and appreciation of countless clients and coworkers.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Scott’s heart belonged to the great outdoors. He loved hiking with his children, embarking on road trips, tending to his gardens, kayaking with the “Sauna Guys,” and developing his five-acre property into a peaceful haven. For years he poured his energy into dismantling and repurposing ancient barns, preserving historic craftsmanship for generations to come. Scott’s hands and heart were always busy creating, nurturing, and enjoying life’s simplest yet most profound pleasures.
Scott was a devoted father to his son Ben Browner, daughter Lucy (Aron) Betts, and a proud grandfather to his grandson Henry, whose smile brought endless joy to his life. He is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Rita (Peacock) Browner, and his brothers Stuart and Kim Browner, who all live on in cherished memories.
Though the last 10 months post-stroke were a challenge for Scott, he was always surrounded by family, and cared for with the utmost love. His passing was peaceful, enshrouded with joy, humor, and courage.
As Scott would have wanted, this is a time for joy, not sorrow. This cherished song - a favorite oldie of his, and a reflection of his enduring spirit - can be heard here: https://open.spotify.com/track/3kV4w6QSYpAUFeADuDILV8?si=a568ac8c67914037 . Listen, rejoice, and carry his light forward.
Scott’s Celebration of Life will be held sometime in March 2025 in Southern Illinois. Details will be shared as plans are finalized.
In his memory, may we find inspiration to embrace life fully, nurture our passions, dance to great music, and create moments that linger long after we’re gone.
