Serafin Cerna, Jr.

May 17, 1945 — September 6, 2021

Serafin Cerna Junior was born in San Pedro de las Colonias, Coahuila, Mexico on May 17, 1945. He passed away at his home on September 6, 2021. He was 76. Serafin immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings in 1946. He attended Wapato public schools, graduating in 1963, then took classes at Yakima Valley Community College for one year, before moving to Port Townsend to work at the Crown Zellerbach paper mill. In 1966, Serafin joined the Army reserves and served for two years. He returned to Port Townsend to work and in 1969 married Diane Smith. They moved to Bellflower, California where he worked as a manager for KFC restaurants. Diane and Serafin eventually returned to Port Townsend buying their first home. Serafin worked as a car salesman in Port Townsend and Port Angeles. He also worked in Sequim as a salesman. Serafin enjoyed his work and the people he met during those years. From the time he was a young boy, Serafin loved cars, especially classic cars. He owned Corvettes, roadsters, and classic Chevy pick-ups. He was a member of the Rakers Car Club in Port Townsend and traveled to car shows all over the state. Cars were his passion and brought him great joy plus fond memories. In 2003, Serafin suffered a massive heart attack which would greatly affect his health for the rest of his life. He lost Diane, his wife of 43 years, in 2012. Still, he fought hard to remain active. He did his best to continue participating in car shows as well as keeping up his home and health until his death. Serafin is survived by his siblings, Peter Cerna of Yakima, Sally Kaatz of Ephrata, and Enrique Cerna of Seattle.
